Signing Off

In Preparation

Today has been a day of preparation. Not surprisingly, I had several things to think about in regards to giving up technology for 24 hours.

Firstly, I had to contact all the people who would normally speak to me in a day and let them know that I would not be using telephones, computers, or any kind of communicative technology for the day.

Secondly, I had to find things for the 24 hours that I would not normally require. Such as ---- a watch.

Luckily, I have one that I bought last summer at the beach.

One that I would rarely wear.

Thirdly, I had to make plans for the time period that I would normally make the day of. Example? Rehearsal for my concert Tuesday night.

What to Expect

Tomorrow, I will be giving up all forms of technology. Actually, this will begin tonight at 10:00 pm. I'm taking my project on with the approach of 24 hours as opposed to "a day." Reason? I live an hour and fifteen minutes away from Boone, NC in Elkin, NC. I have a concert late tomorrow night at 8:00 pm. I would like to be able to communicate with my parents (who olive next door to me) after the concert in an effort to ease their worry regarding my safety and whereabouts as I drive down the mountain late at night.

I chose this particular day because I knew it would be a day that I would be (for the majority of the time) kept busy. Cop out? Probably. My theory? Out of sight, out of mind. I'm not going to lie and say that I think it will be easy when I leave my phone in my car tomorrow morning, but I've done it before accidentally and I definitely "survived."

So this will be my last communication before I go to sleep and wake up to a day without technology.

Aka, setting myself back about 100 years.

Good thing I like to read.

  1. I would first have to agree with your not so good breakfast. I know the feeling! I usually heat something up in the microwave so needless to say I didn't have breakfast that day! Next was that I drove the most safe drive everywhere I went that day. Without the radio to distract me while I sing uncontrollably, I also didn't have my phone to talk or text on. This was a positive outcome of my day without technology. Also more facetime with my teachers I didn't text or play games during class either! Great layout of your blog :)
